Sport & human flourishing
Sport, play, and belonging.
Sports bring us to life. We cheer. We cry. We feel every emotion involved in hope throughout the close matches. This peculiar magic of sport is precisely what we celebrate at UEF.

Our perspective
Passion, discovery, and the intensity of play.
We celebrate the passion and love players play with, the lessons learned in both victory and defeat, and the intensity of playing that sports reveal to us as a possibility.
Whether we are on the court or cheering from the sidelines, sport can draw us into something larger than ourselves. The result matters because we care; the experience stays with us because we have felt it together.
We believe embracing the LLP mindset will allow us to not only play sports but flourish while doing so!
Love the craft and the people.
Passion brings us back to a sport: the craft, the team, and the shared hope of a close match. That love also shows in how we support a teammate after a mistake and respect the people on the other side.
Learn in victory and defeat.
Every game offers something to understand. Practice develops skill and judgment; winning and losing reveal where we can grow. Learning continues when we stay curious, listen to others, and remain willing to change.
Become absorbed in the game.
A rally, a well-timed pass, or a surprising comeback can draw our attention completely into the moment. Sport reveals the intensity and pleasure of playing with our whole selves.
Learning through sport
Kobe Bryant: always a student of the game.
Kobe Bryant, affectionately known and feared as the Black Mamba, is an exemplar of learning through sports.
His well attested to approach of always wanting to learn more showed he was willing to leave his ego at the door to explore how he might get better at the craft he loved.
Teamwork in sports
A team is a relationship.
Team sports ask people to coordinate their efforts, share responsibility, and respond to one another. A pass depends on someone being ready to receive it. A mistake becomes a chance for a team to recover together.
The social value of a team depends on its culture. Regular games can create familiarity and friendships, while exclusion or humiliation can make the same setting unwelcoming. Coaches, captains, and players all shape that culture.
Sportsmanship
Respect keeps competition possible.
Sportsmanship means treating teammates, opponents, and officials with respect while honoring the rules and spirit of a game. It includes honesty about a foul, a fair response to disagreement, and dignity in both winning and losing.
Competitive intensity and generosity can coexist. A well-played game gives both sides a meaningful challenge and a reason to come back.
Recreational & community sports
Finding a place to play.
Recreational sports put enjoyment and participation at the center, through organized leagues or informal games. The right setting depends on the activity, the people, and the level of commitment. Drop-in sessions offer flexibility; beginner classes provide instruction; recreational leagues offer a regular team and schedule.

Inclusive sports
Belonging is built into the details.
A welcome becomes meaningful when people can actually participate. Accessible facilities, suitable equipment, clear information, and thoughtful coaching all affect who can join a game and enjoy it.
Adaptive sports offer different ways to take part, with rules and equipment suited to participants. Inclusive recreational settings also pay attention to experience, cost, language, and the confidence to enter an unfamiliar group.
For informal groups, a recurring time, an accessible venue, shared expectations, and a clear point of contact make participation easier. The goal is a game people can rely on and a community that makes room for them.
