Summer of Love, Learn, Play

Love someone. Learn something. Play more. All summer — and post what you do with #SummerOfLLP.

Friends together outdoors in summer light.

Love, Learn, Play

All summer, give a little ground to each of your three deepest longings: to love and be loved, to be absorbed in the quest for wisdom, to playfully interact with the complex world. The full framework →

Friends sharing a long meal outdoors in summer.

Love

To love and be loved.

Take a long lunch with people you haven't seen in a year. Cook for someone with your phones off, write a real letter to someone who'd be surprised to get one, or give an afternoon to volunteering alongside other people.

Learn

To be absorbed in the quest for wisdom.

Read a book about something you know nothing about. Spend three hours — not one — in a museum you've never walked into, take up a craft like knife skills or a few chords, or join a guided walk through your own city.

Play

To playfully interact with the complex world.

Swim in real water — a lake, the ocean, a river, a spring. Get into a pickup game you last played as a kid, fly a kite, make music, paint something, take a long aimless bike ride, or stay out stargazing past midnight.

Find Things Near You

The best love-learn-play days happen close to home. Here's where to find a shared lunch, a class, a pickup game, or a place to lend a hand.

Food and craft stalls at a busy outdoor street market.

Also check your local library, parks department, and city events calendar.

    Play

    Barton Springs Pool

    4.52,815 reviewsSwimming pool~3 hrs

Swim the spring-fed pool — a steady 68–70°F year-round — then sprawl on the Zilker lawn. Bring cash, and arrive before the afternoon rush fills the grass.

≈ 15 min northwest up the lake

  3. Evening · 7:30 PM03
    Love

    Mount Bonnell

    4.51,284 reviewsScenic overlook~1.5 hrs

Climb the short stone stairway to the city's highest overlook and watch the sun set over Lake Austin. Wear real shoes — the path up is unpaved — and bring someone you like.

A clean run from downtown out toward the lake — each stop roughly 10–15 minutes from the last.

Where It All Comes From

Summer of Love, Learn, Play grew out of Akhil Gupta's book — the case that real flourishing comes from engaging our three deepest longings: to love, to learn, and to play, in whatever we do.
