Loving through Silence

Romain Demaunt is the CEO of a healing company who has found a new mission in life: to bring loving, learning, and playing through moments of silence. It may sound like a paradox as we often associate those vibrant mindsets with noise and interpersonal conversation. But sometimes, Romain believes, we need a moment of silence together to truly appreciate one another.

This was a hard earned lesson for him, one he acquired after the silence that fell upon his ears when his new born son died from a rare genetic disease. The silence, to his surprise, was soothing because there were no words for the occasion. Silence has become affiliated with mourning and moments of silence inspired by tragic events. But when we think about our life in community, it makes sense to acknowledge that sometimes sitting in silence with someone you love is itself an expression of that love.

Romain developed an app to allow folks from across the world to press a button and have a moment of silence together. At the end, in the creative spirit of play beyond words, they are invited to draw a doodle of any kind. Be present with the other as a form of love, let the reflections pour in as you silently think as a form of learning, and express yourself through play. That is the aim. To love, learn, play through silence!
